The Ferrari 308 GTB (3.0litre V8 Gran Turismo Berlinetta), designed by Pininfarina, was the ‘small’ entry level Ferrari. The car has a transversely mid-mounted engine, and was the successor to the beautiful 246 Dino. It came in GT4 and GTS variants, the former a Bertone designed 2+2, the latter a targa top version of the GTB. Due to emissions legislation, the car became fuel injected around 1980 (earlier cars like this had 4 twin Weber carbs), but this also lost power. This was rectified with the QV (quattrovalvole) model. The 308 then evolved into the 328 and 348 before the all-new F355 broke cover.

Well known for being driven by Magnum, PI, the 308 is not known for it’s ability to accommodate tall people – Tom Selleck, who played Magnum and is 6’5” tall, is only ever seen in the GTS with the roof off!

This car came with a sheaf of bills, and in the last 6 years, pure maintenance costs (not restoration) have run to over £55,000. In that time, the previous owner only managed 5,000 miles. More than £10 per mile! Ouch. What better reason to join the club?
