Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I would like to become a Member of Classic Car Club: what should I do?

A: Simply contact us to ask for an application form and return it to the Club at 60 St John's Road, Edinburgh, EH12 8AT. Alternatively you can download the application form first.

Q: What else do I need to send with the application form?

A: Send a copy of your driving licence along with payment (by cheque or credit/debit card or cash) and a reference.

Q: What form should the reference take and from whom should it come?

A: The reference should be very simple: just a few lines to say that you would make a good and responsible Classic Car Club member. Ideally it should come from someone who can vouch for you (though not family!), ie work colleague, legal adviser, accountant etc. In short, someone who can vouch for you in a short letter on headed paper.

Q: How do I pay?

A: The application form has a section for credit/debit cards. Otherwise, you can send a cheque or cash. For cash payments we advise either calling in person or sending by recorded or registered post. Please note that all Credit Card Payments will incur a 2% surcharge. You can also make a card payment over the phone should you prefer.

Q: Will you still be around in 3 months time?

A: A fair question given the current economic uncertainty and the ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ reputation many car clubs have earned themselves! Established in 1995 in London, and 2001 in Edinburgh, Classic Car Club was the first, and every other club is an imitation of CCC. Classic Car Club, Scotland is still wholly owned by the two who founded it back in 2001. It has never had any borrowings, debt or overdraft, and none of the cars have ever been leased from financing companies. Whilst in life there are very few certainties, given that we’ve just invested the thick end of £200,000 in new metal, we expect to be around for a long time yet! And if you are still in any way worried, just pay us by credit card.

Q: Do you deliver to Glasgow?

A: While we are based in Edinburgh, we also deliver and collect from a site on Dunblane St, just off Cowcaddens Road in Glasgow. For members at Standard or Platinum levels we deliver to Glasgow for free if the member is taking a car for 3 days or more. For Country members or those taking a car for less than 3 days delivery to Glasgow will cost £30 each way. Collection from Edinburgh is free in all cases.

Q: Mileage Allowances.

Most of the cars have unlimited mileage allowances. For the newer, more expensive and thus more depreciation sensitive cars, we will allow members 150 miles per day. Any miles in excess of this will be prorated per day, and added as a points charge. For cars of band 9 and above, we will charge for miles over 150 per day using the following formula:

Mileage Charge in points = (excess miles/150) x car band

Q: What about Winter use?

A: When the evenings draw in, and snow, ice and salt are on the roads, it is not ideal driving for any classic or performance car. So much so, that based on previous years accident rates our insurers insist we take the cars off the road for the worst of it. We accept that many wish to use cars over Xmas and Hogmanay, so we leave cars on the road until after Hogmanay, and then withdraw them until mid March. This has the benefit of allowing us to do much needed work on the cars so we arrive in spring firing on all cylinders!

Q: What are your Insurance Excesses?

A: Our excesses vary between cars – from £500 to £5000 depending on the car. Like your own policy, as a club member you do not have to pay the excess up front as if you were hiring a car. Also like your own policy, if you can prove the accident was the fault of another person, and the insurance company agrees with you, you do not pay the excess. In addition, an extra insurance product can be purchased for £250 per year which cuts all excesses in half. For details of the levels of excess please click here.

Q: Having paid the joining fee and annual subscription, are there any further deposits or hidden payments?

A: Absolutely not. With Classic Car Club, what you pay for is what you get. There are no extra mileage costs* and no insurance deposits.

Q: What happens if I refer a new member to the Club?

A: Any member referring a new member will receive a 10% discount on their following years subscription renewal from Classic Car Club Edinburgh. So refer 10 new members and your renewal will FREE!

* - premium cars are limited to 150 miles per day with points pro-rated for excess miles.
